Australian Catholic University’s (ACU) Uni Taster program is designed to provide veterans and their families information about university and their study and career options.

When: 21 - 26 November 2022

Where: Night programs are held at Level 1, 150 Walker Street, Townsville City
Day programs are held at The Oasis, 1 Staging, Camp Avenue, Oonoonba QLD 4811

About the program

Many current and ex-serving Australian Defence Force (ADF) personnel don’t realise that university is a viable option for them or their families. Participants in this program can:

find out how ACU will support veterans and their families as they transition to university and during their studies
learn how to apply
discover what courses they may be eligible for based on military experience
find out what support services are available
experience an academic lecture
talk with current student veterans and more.

What to expect?

The event is run over seven days, but it is comprised of multiple standalone sessions that cover a range of topics. Sessions include workshops, mini academic lectures, panel discussions, student presentations, and staff presentations. Participants can join as many sessions as they like.

What does it cost?

This program is free, there is no cost to attend.

Who is this event for?

Current and ex-serving ADF personnel and their families are all welcome.

Do I need to attend all sessions?

No, you can attend one, many or all of the sessions – it is entirely up to the individual.

Do I need to register?

Registrations are encouraged but not essential – drop ins are welcome. Proof of registration to attend will be provided via email for those who require it.

Townsville Leadership Centre

We’ve established a Leadership Centre in Townsville for current and ex-serving members of the Australian Defence Force (ADF) and their families.

Located at 150 Walker Street in the middle of the city, the new centre will provide an opportunity for ACU to support veterans and their families keen to undertake tertiary education.

Student Veteran Support Program (SVSP)

SVSP provides ACU student veterans, who are current or former military personnel, with access to a range of support services and academic resources to help ease the transition into uni life.

Veteran Entry Program (VEP)

The VEP recognises your service in the Army, Navy or Air Force. Your service is then assessed and converted into a selection rank, similar to an ATAR.

We recognise the unique challenges faced by student veterans when transitioning to university. VTP supports you with workshops, lectures and more to successfully transition into higher education.

Recognition of prior learning for veterans

As a member of the ADF you undergo rigorous training and gain valuable work experience. ACU recognises this and provides the opportunity to receive credit for your service.
